To actively promote the principles of equality and diversity and to raise awareness of personal attitudes and feelings towards discrimination and equip learners with the, knowledge, skills and attitudes to deal with discrimination

Outcomes

By the end of the event, through tutor input, participation in discussions, exercises and presentations, learners will be able to:

Explain the principles of Equality and Diversity

  • Explain the interdependence of these principles
  • Define the terms stereotype, prejudice and discrimination
  • Explain how discrimination can occur
  • Describe how it may feel to be in a visible minority
  • Describe the behaviours which may result from the feelings experienced by being in a minority
  • Discuss how these behaviours may be interpreted
  • Discuss the feelings which may be experienced as a result of exclusion
  • Describe ways to challenge unacceptable behaviour

The course will be delivered by an experienced professional, practitioner and trainer who has extensive knowledge on equality and diversity matters from the voluntary, private and public sector perspective.
